Some good thoughts...

So, I have a daily calendar with thoughts on it-- and this year's is all about moms, being a mom, funny mom moments, etc. So, I may share a few when I really enjoy them. Here are a couple that I thought were really good....

"Whatever the era, whatever the times, one thing will never change: fathers and mothers...children must come first. Your success as a family--our success as a society--depends not on what happens in the White House, but what happens inside your house." --Barbara Bush

Another one I enjoyed is today's thought---entitled Live in the Moment.
Author Anna Quindlen can recall many moments as a mother that have been enshrined in the Remember-When-Mom-Did Hall of Fame. Among them, she says, are "the outbursts, the temper tantrums, the bad language--mine, not theirs. The times the baby fell off the bed. The times I arrived late for preschool pickup. The nightmare sleepover. The horrible summer camp. The day when the youngest came barreling out of the classroom with a 98 on her geography test, and I responded, 'What did you get wrong?' The time I ordered food at the McDonald's drive-through speaker and drove away without picking it up. The biggest mistake I made is the one most of us make: I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone."

I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one with that kind of hall of fame. It made me smile-- but also remember that I need to do better at living in the moment, too. The saying "this too shall pass..." comes to mind often when you have a house that's a disaster more often than not, and you feel like you've yelled more often than hugged. I hope we can all remember to live in the moment-- and not let those moments pass by unnoticed.

Christmas 2008

Here's a glimpse of Christmas at our house this year....First of all the two older boys were excited to see Santa this year--Ethan-not so much as you can tell by the picture. But Kyson and Tanner made sure that Santa knew they wanted light sabers and Jedi Knight costumes for Christmas this year. Do you think Santa got it right? I know Mrs. Claus (for some other households) can sew quite well--but she did the best she could for these boys with their Jedi costumes. Kyson wore his all of Christmas day. :) Ethan quite enjoyed the cookies that were left over from Santa's plate, and the other two couldn't get enough of those light sabers!! Good job Santa!! :) Oh- and mom (Kas) made the matching p.j.'s and the blankets for the boys--I was quite proud of myself--because I don't sew!! :) Thanks mom, Colleen, and Cindy for the help on tying the quilts!!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!! (TMNT)

So, when you have a house full of boys-- and they're all into superheroes and such-- do you think I will ever cease to be amazed at what they come up with--or better yet- what their father can come up with....? Just have a look for yourselves...at my very own teenage mutant ninja turtles....

My School Boy!

I can't believe that I really have a boy old enough for Kindergarten! Even now- when he's been going for a few weeks (sorry- meant to get pictures on here earlier!). He's loving it though- he was disappointed his first weekend when he found out there was no school on Saturday and Sunday! Hope he keeps that enthusiasm!!

Here are some pictures of him on the first day (the first 2 pics)-- with his oversized backpack!! Then the others are on a different day when he wanted his hair just a little spiky in the front- like daddy's!! Pretty cute!! He's way into his hair lately-- and you guys keep saying I need a girl!! The last one is for you Hawaii visitors-- he's giving you a hang loose!!
